MATCH PREVIEW | Huddersfield next up for Rhinos Women in Cup quarter finals

Sunday afternoon sees Leeds Rhinos Women look to book their place in the semi finals of the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup for a seventh consecutive season as they face Huddersfield Giants in the last eight at AMT Headingley, kick off 12pm.

A convincing run through the group stages saw the Rhinos take down Leigh and Sheffield to take a step closer to Wembley, but they face a Giants side who have some familiar faces in their 2025 squad.

Take a look at the match preview to find out more...

Opposition

With one win from 10 matches against the Rhinos in all competitions, Huddersfield Giants come into Sunday's game as underdogs against the two-time Cup champions but Lori Halloran's side have impact players across the field that can make the game interesting.

So far in the 2025 competition, the Giants lost out to York Valkyrie in their first group game of the year on home soil, but they bounced back against Featherstone Rovers in a 36-8 victory. Homegrown winger Mollie Iceton recorded a hat trick to take down Rovers, whilst Amelia Brown also opened her account for the year. The England international has become one of the top talents produced back Huddersfield and likes a try against the Rhinos, having scored three in three Cup meetings against Leeds.

There are also some familiar names for Rhinos fans as the Giants have five former Leeds players in their camp. Sam Hulme won a Grand Final title with Leeds in 2022 and played in a Challenge Cup Final during her three years at the club, plus Frankie Townend was a try scorer in Leeds' Cup Final win in 2018. Kacy Haley was also part of Leeds' inaugural squad in 2018, playing two games.

Tilly Davies and Faye Barraclough make the step up to first team rugby as they joined the Giants from the Rhinos Under-19s in the off-season. Both outside backs are proven try scorers and can develop under Halloran, who is also a former Leeds player.

The Giants have met Leeds three times in the Challenge Cup competition, all coming in the group stages. Georgia Roche led the Rhinos in a 38-8 victory in the first meeting in 2022 at the John Smith's Stadium before Leeds also secured wins in 2023 and 2024 by a 50-point margin.  This week's game is the first ever meeting in a knockout round though, as both sides hope to keep their Wembley ambitions alive.

Quarter Final History

The Rhinos are unbeaten at the quarter-final stage of the Cup competition, winning every game since their inaugural season in 2018. During that time, they have seen off Warrington Wolves on three occasions, including on their way to lifting the Cup in 2019, as well as the Army when they claimed the title in 2018. The Rhinos have also nilled their opponents four times and conceded only 20 points across the six year span.

2024 - Won 70-10 vs Warrington Wolves

2023 - Won 54-0 vs Leigh Leopards

2022 - Won 40-0- vs Warrington Wolves

2021 - Won 70-0 vs Bradford Bulls

2019 - Won 74-0 vs Warrington Wolves

2018 - Won 46-10 vs The Army

Huddersfield's record is the polar opposite as they have lost their three quarter finals appearances since 2022. In 2022 and 2024, they lost out to eventual winners St Helens without scoring a point, but managed to cross for two tries against Wigan in vain in 2023.

2024 - Lost 74-0 vs St Helens

2023 - Lost 46-10 vs Wigan Warriors

2022 - Lost 24-0 vs St Helens

Milestones
